With the attendance of Peace and Coexistence teachers of the island of San Andres, the Departmental Government closed the training process with teachers of the Universidad de la Costa on the theme of Peace aimed at young people and children of the insular territory.

Teacher and speaker, Omar Fernando Cortés Vega, explained the importance to instill in students the theme of peace in times of post-conflict.

“The important point is our accompaniment model and we want to involve teachers, students and the academic community in the construction of peace scenarios in schools”, said the teacher on the process that took place on the island and which end with the delivery of certificates to the participants.

Thanks to the inter-administrative agreement between the Departmental Government and the Universidad del Atlántico, 26 musicians of the Archipelago were admitted to the institution to become professionals, after taking some tests and an entrance exam.

Let us recall that staff members of the Universidad del Atlántico came to the island of San Andres last October to conduct the knowledge test of each one of the applicants.

Hereby, the schedule of the 2016 Fifth Delivery of Incentives is published.

•    ACCOUNT DEPOSIT Payment: Families with methods of “Payment to savings account”, have payments available and may cash the incentives at any of the SERVIBANCA’s ATM from 9 NOVEMBER, 2016.

•    TRANSFER/OVER-THE-COUNTER Payment: Families WITHOUT debit cards should collect the incentive through BANK TRANSFER at the Banco Agrario Offices from 10 to 30 November 2016.   In order to avoid congestion within the Bank, mothers and fathers holders may approach the program office located at the Departmental Government building, to claim the corresponding turn with the cash transfer registration date.

The Housni government paid the enrollment for public school students of the island, to enable them to participate in the “No necesitas alas para volar – Corre con altura” second athletics race of the Air Force carried out in the island of San Andres last Sunday, 6 November.

287 sportsmen met from 5:30 a.m., 176 in the 5 K category and 111 in the 10 K category for venturing in this second event that was a great success. Top athletes as well as military forces fans and the island community took part in the race integrating the community and visitors, lovers of sports and healthy habits in a big sports event. The race started at the hotel El Dorado where the pedestrian walkway begins. A turn for the participants of the 5 K was taken at the last entrance of Cabañas and a turn for the participants of the 10 K at the entrance of Morris Landing.

The Air Force Colonel, Mario Alejandro Espinosa Bernal, Commander of the grupo Aéreo del Caribe, expressed his gratitude to the Governor of the islands for his contribution and support to the young Saintandrewans. “The aim is to increase this call and it is expected to double the number of participants for the third version, since Governor Ronald Housni jointly supports the youth of the archipelago and want these spaces to be of increased competition”, said at the close of the event.

Gabriel Alejandro Arce and Elvia Jimenez won the 5 km race, while Luz Marina Rincón and Carlos Hernán Herrera won first place in the 10 km, in the female and male category respectively.

•    Adultas mayores narran enriquecedoras experiencias de vida a través de videos testimoniales
•    La Gobernación del Departamento programó talleres para este grupo de población

Acompañados de profesionales de la salud y guiados por expertos en el área de estilos de vida saludable para los adultos mayores, los integrantes del programa de la Gobernación participaron de la actividad realizada en el salón Walwin Peterson Bent del edificio del Coral Palace.

La sesión académica, la cual estuvo amenizada con música y baile con los adultos mayores, estuvo enriquecida con videos de testimonios de personas adultas mayores que contaron su experiencia personal y enviaron mensajes de apoyo a otros adultos mayores e incluso a jóvenes para que tengan una vida plena y placentera.

“Hemos abierto un espacio con los veedores y representantes de los clubes de adultos mayores para que sean capacitados en el área de salud y estilos de vida saludable. De esta manera fortalecemos a esta población vulnerable. Con este programa buscamos exhortar a los adultos mayores a que sigan activos y se sientan parte importante de nuestra sociedad”, expresó Rosa MacLean, sicóloga de la Secretaria
