• Children learn island customs while playing
“Play is one of the best tools to stimulate learning; this is why the Secretariat of Education launched the ‘Recreational Adventure’. A new pedagogical strategy designed to strengthen the skills of children, mainly, those belonging to the most vulnerable sector of our department, where we want to go with great impact to build a more equitable society”, as noted by the Secretary of Education, Silvanus Henry Bent.
The Recreational Adventure is an initiative that promotes island’s oral tradition based on the creation of stories in which children participate through interpretations.
“This process goes on until December, and the great news is that it was proposed by the children, thanks to the process we have been working on with them. We have given them different topics to develop and they chose to learn more about traditions of the department. This is a positive indicator and reflects that the children are taking advantage of these learning programs while they play”, as stated by Diana Cadena, coordinator of the initiative.
Friday, 30 September, approximately one hundred bags with televisions, computers, recorders and cameras were evacuated, among other electronic and electric waste, collected in different sectors of the island and taken to the Green Point during the San Andrés + Limpia campaign.
“This is the third evacuation of this kind of waste; we continue to work for our island. We will continue these actions to fulfill the community’s dream of having a more sustainable archipelago” as stated by Jenyffer Villalba Archbold, Secretary of Public Services and Environment.
Thanks to the collaboration of the ARC Cartagena ship of the National Armed Forces, the waste will be collected by the Asociación Nacional de Industriales (ANDI), who will be responsible for the disposal of these 400 kilograms of waste.
